Built for the Long Work
Loceng Studio is a small workshop in Ipoh where watchcare is taken seriously — not rushed, not guessed, not oversold.
Back to HomeHow Loceng Studio Came to Be
The studio grew quietly from a long personal interest in how things keep time. The founder, Razif, had spent years disassembling and reassembling watches at a workbench in his home before opening a proper space. The name — Loceng, the Malay word for bell or chime — nods to that audible heartbeat a well-regulated movement carries.
The workshop opened on Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil in 2013, and the approach has stayed consistent since: look at each watch properly, tell the owner what you find, and do only what's actually needed. It sounds straightforward, and it is — though it takes discipline to hold to it when there's always more that could be done.
Most of the work is on everyday pieces — a quartz watch that's been sitting in a drawer for three years, a mechanical watch inherited from a parent, a dress watch with a scratched crystal. These are not museum pieces. They're objects people use and care about, and that's enough reason to work carefully.
Our Mission
To service and repair watches in a way that their owners can trust — with clear communication, honest assessment, and workmanship that respects the piece.
What We Value
- Patience over speed
- Transparency in every stage of the work
- Restraint — knowing when not to intervene
- Respect for the owner's attachment to their watch
Workshop Location
78, Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil, 30450 Ipoh, Perak — a short walk from the old town area.
The People at the Bench
Mohd Razif
Founder & Watchmaker
Trained in movement servicing over twelve years of hands-on work. Handles mechanical overhauls, regulation, and the more delicate case refinishing requests.
Siti Norzahra
Workshop Manager
Manages intake, customer communication, and condition documentation. Ensures every owner stays informed and no watch gets lost in the process.
Ahmad Hakim
Quartz Technician
Focuses on quartz battery services, seal inspections, and crystal work. Careful with the smaller jobs that are easy to underestimate.
How We Work
Intake Assessment
Every watch is logged on arrival with a description of its condition. Nothing proceeds without this documented starting point.
Timing Machine Verification
Mechanical movements are measured on a professional timing machine before and after servicing, giving an objective record of performance.
Water Resistance Check
Seals are inspected and tested where relevant. We note the result honestly, including when a watch's original water resistance cannot be fully restored.
Progress Communication
We contact the owner when the watch arrives, if anything unexpected is found mid-service, and when the work is complete. You're never left waiting without information.
Vintage Care Protocol
Older pieces with original patina or period-correct finishes are handled with particular care. We discuss the appropriate level of intervention before any cosmetic work begins.
Written Condition Notes
Every Quiet Check includes a written note of what was found, what was done, and any observations for the owner's future reference.
Watch Repair in Ipoh — What We Stand For
Loceng Studio works with quartz and mechanical watches across a wide range of brands and ages. The three services we offer — Quiet Check, Movement Renewal, and Case & Crystal Care — cover the most common needs a watch owner encounters over the years.
Ipoh has a quiet appreciation for things that are well made and properly maintained. It suits the pace of watchcare. The older parts of the city still carry clocks and towers that mark the hours in a way that feels unhurried. That's the spirit we try to bring to the bench.
We don't operate as a reseller or a retail store. The work here is servicing — cleaning, repairing, and setting right the mechanisms that make a watch function as intended. There's no upselling, no recommendation to replace a watch that can be repaired, and no guesswork presented as expertise.
If you have a watch that hasn't been looked at in years, or one you're not sure about, a message or a phone call is a reasonable starting point. We'll tell you what makes sense.
